Obituary for Regina Kay Vogt M.D.

Regina Kay Vogt M.D. age 50, of Taylors Falls, MN passed on Friday, April 12, 2019 after a courageous fight with multiple medical problems at Regions Hospital surrounded by loved ones.

R. Kay was born August 26, 1968 in Creighton, Nebraska to Donald James and Barbara Lee (Peterson) Vogt. She was raised in Yankton, South Dakota and graduated in 1986 from Yankton High School. She attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, graduating in 1990. R. Kay loved medicine from an early age and was accepted into the University of South Dakota School of Medicine in 1991. She graduated in 1995, moving to Grand Rapids, Michigan to do her internship. After deciding upon family practice as a specialty she moved the following year to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she completed her residency training at Fairview/University of Minnesota in 1998. By that time R. Kay had become seriously and chronically ill. Thus she was able to work at her dream job at Fairview Hiawatha Clinic for only 3 years before having to stop. As her health worsened, she eventually accepted the generous offer of help from her parents, moving back to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2006. R. Kay developed additional serious medical problems in 2008.

In 2010, her parents found a home in Taylors Falls, Minnesota and the decision was made to move. R. Kay lived with her parents in the land she had grown to love until her last days. She did not have much time for hobbies during her training and employment as a family practitioner but loved traveling and going to live concerts in her spare time.

As her illness worsened, R. Kay developed many hobbies. Of note her love of beautifying the interior and exterior of their home and property. She began writing a book for patients to help them through the difficulties of health care. She enjoyed the company of her companion animals throughout her entire life. R. Kay was humbled to assist in the daily care of her mom as she was dying. Family and friends were the main rocks that kept R. Kay cared for, loved and held up during the many years of her illness.

R. Kay is preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Vogt; aunt/Godmother, Nette; aunt, Marilyn (Mimi); 4 grandparents; many classmates and many animal companions.

R. Kay is survived by her father, Donald Vogt of Taylors Falls, MN; brothers, Kevin (Trish) Vogt and family of Sioux Falls, SD; and Kregg (Kristal) Vogt and family of Yankton, SD and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, a great-niece and many friends.
