Obituary for Sherman W. Pettis

Sherman Weslie Pettis died peacefully March 2, 2019 at the Christian Community Home in Osceola. He was 82 years old.

He was born in New Richmond, WI on April 16, 1936 and was the first born of seven children to Luther and Mayme Pettis.

He moved to Osceola in 1943 where he lived for many years. While an insurance agent he lived in numerous towns in Minnesota and Wisconsin but his heart eventually brought him back to Osceola.

From 1950-1960 he worked for three local newspapers; first with the Osceola Sun as an intern and a linotype operator and also in Lindstrom and St. Croix Falls. He worked at the Osceola Bank from 1960 to 1970 and was an insurance agent from 1960-2018.

He served his country proudly as a member of the National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion for 38 years where he held various positions at post and state levels.
His father Lute got him involved with the Osceola Braves at an early age and he was a lifelong fan of the Braves, Twins and Packers.

Sherman had a passionate faith for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and everyone who knew him can attest to that. In defense of the Kings James Version of the Bible, he published two books and this work was his most fulfilling accomplishment. His favorite Bible passage was Psalm 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eyes.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lute and Mayme, wife Elenore and sister Marlys Haugen.

He is survived by his three children: Scott Pettis (Sue) of Davenport, IA; Julie Ingram (Ron) of St. Paul, MN; Jennifer Harding (Paul) of Brookfield, WI; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, sister Gail Beaver, sister Becky (Arvin) Larson, sister Velma (Daryle) Larson, brother Mark (Joey) Pettis, and brother David (Diane) Pettis.

Memorials may be made to Christian Community Home or New Life Christian Community.
