Obituary for Constance M. Johnson

Constance (Connie) Margaret Johnson, age 94, a long-time resident of the North Branch area, passed away on March 10, 2019, in Macon, Georgia, where she had been living since September 2018.

Connie was born September 7, 1924, in Sunrise Township and grew up on the Boyce family farm there. After graduation from North Branch High School she worked at Montgomery Ward in Worthington, MN, where she met Elmer Adams. They were married in 1944, helped manage the Adams Hotel in Worthington and had three children. Elmer and Connie moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, in 1954, where they had purchased a Dairy Queen. They operated the Dairy Queen until they sold it in 1965. Connie also worked part-time at Sears, Roebuck during those years. Later she took bookkeeping classes and became a full time bookkeeper at Ft. Lauderdale’s Sunrise Middle School, until her retirement in 1989. Shortly after her husband died in 1988, Connie moved from Florida back to the Boyce family farm and built a new house there in 1990. She met Ted Johnson at Trinity Lutheran Church, and they were married there in 1995. They enjoyed life together until Ted’s death in 2006. She lived in Minnesota until September 2018 when she moved to Georgia to be close to her son and his family. She had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since her return to Minnesota.

Connie was regarded by all she met as a kind, sweet, loving person who always thought of others. Up until the time she moved to Georgia, she still went to Cambridge to visit a Trinity member in the nursing home, as a member of the Trinity visitation committee. She read her Bible and other devotional publications as part of her daily routine. She was a great cook and loved collecting and using cookbooks and recipes from many sources. She was happiest when she shared her culinary creations with family and friends. Everyone had their favorites. Connie was even a finalist in the All-Florida “Orange Dessert Contest” in 1961. There were 12 finalists out of 3,496 entries from all over the state.

Constance was preceded in death by her father and mother, Henry and Alice (Ellefson) Boyce; her sister, Delores (Boyce) Engmark; her husband, Elmer Adams; her second husband, Theodore (Ted) Johnson; her brother-in-law, Allen (Phil) Engmark; and her son, Scott Adams.

She is survived by daughter, Vivikka DeLoach (Richard) of Hampton, VA and son, Dale Adams (Dianne) of Macon, GA; grandson Eric Adams (Melissa) of Watkinsville, GA; granddaughter Laura Fremont (Robbie) of Macon, GA; great-granddaughters, Emily, Sarah, Elena, and Paige. She is also survived by her nephews Lynn Engmark (Joyce), Gary Engmark, David Engmark (Susan) and numerous other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials maybe directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch.
