Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Friend. Age 96 of Lindstrom, died on May 26, 2012. She is preceded in death by husband Howard; siblings Cyrus, Earl & Barbara; & son-in-law Merle Peterson. Dorothy is survived by children Carol Peterson, Marcia (Pat) Smith, Kristine (Richard) Henley, Peter (Debra) & George (Teri); 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters June, Gertrude, Marjorie, & Mary Alice.

Dorothy Palmquist was born in Pleasant Valley, south of Shafer in 1915. She was a graduate of North High in Minneapolis and of Polk County Normal School, St. Croix Falls, WI. She taught country school in rural Polk County, WI.

She and Howard Nelson were married May 14, 1939. They owned and operated the Community Market in Lindstrom, MN until 1976. They raised their family of 5 children in Lindstrom and were active members of the community. Dorothy was active in community service, including Chair of Chisago County Red Cross, Chair of Chisago County Cancer Society, District PTA Chair, founding member of Lindstrom’s Civic Women’s Club, President of Chisago Lakes Hospital Auxiliary, President of Ladies Aid of Trinity Lutheran Church, Matron and Secretary Lakeview Chapter #281, and O.E.S. She volunteered her services to the community in other ways too numerous to mention.
